In the fall of 1969, Gary Knisely ’70 and his friend were looking for an apartment for their senior year. Dr. Helen Loane, chair of the Latin department, knew Gary and his friend were in need of housing and asked them if they would like to rent a room in her beautiful, stone home in Hampden Heights. While the offer was kind, Gary did not think they could afford the rent. As it turned out, Dr. Loane didn’t charge them any rent during their senior year.

“Helen’s husband was an executive who traveled frequently,” said Gary. “All she asked was that we join her for dinner and engage in conversations about Greek and Roman civilization. I will never forget Dr. Loane’s generosity or the intellectual experience she provided to explore subjects I never would have had the chance to discuss. That is what inspired me to include Albright in my will and to establish the Dr. Helen Loane Endowed Scholarship to honor Dr. Loane’s memory.

“Albright provided me with the critical thinking and research skills to guide my career as an attorney and as Executive Vice President of Hanover Foods Corporation, Hanover, PA. In addition to Helen, Professors Philip Eyrich, Anadora Shirk, and Consuela Jordan made special effort to mentor me. I try to do the same with young people. Albright provided me with an incredible experience, and I am happy to give back to Albright through my estate.” Gary is married to his wife of 47 years, Vicki. The couple lives in the York, Pennsylvania, area.
