Making a Bequest to Albright College

Albright College encourages all alumni and friends—of all ages—to consider making a gift by bequest to the College. When making a bequest, you can specify either a specific amount or a percentage of your residuary estate to be gifted to Albright. Bequests made from a donor's residuary estate are distributed only after payment of taxes, debts, settlement costs, and general and specific bequests. You may also specify how you would like the College to use your gift, which will enable you to support a program or area that is important to you.

Following is suggested language that may be used by a testator or lawyer when writing a bequest to Albright.

Specific Legacy

"I give and bequest my original plays with manuscript copyrights to Albright College, a nonprofit corporation headquartered in Reading, Pennsylvania."

The Unrestricted Gift

"I give and bequest to Albright College, a nonprofit corporation headquartered in Reading, Pennsylvania, the sum of $______ (or ___% of my residuary estate; or the property described herein) for its general purposes."

Bequest for a Specific Purpose*

"I give and bequest to Albright College, a nonprofit corporation headquartered in Reading, Pennsylvania, the sum of $_____ (or ___% of my residuary estate) to be used for (specific purpose)." (Please contact the Development Office so that the specifications can be recorded.)

"If in the opinion of the Board of Trustees of Albright College, the income or principal cannot be used for the purpose described herein, they may use the principal or income or both for a different but related purpose that best serves the intent of this bequest." 

When you provide Albright College with information regarding your bequest, such as the bequest amount and designation, you will be recognized for your gift with membership in the 1856 Legacy Society. You will also receive special invitations to events on campus. If you are comfortable doing so, we hope you will share your intentions with the College so that your generosity may be appropriately honored during your lifetime. 

Legal advice is essential when drafting a will. Because a will reflects your deepest wishes, it should be carefully constructed to accomplish exactly what you desire to happen with your assets. The information above is intended, therefore, to serve only as a guideline for you and not as a substitute for professional legal counsel.
