congratulate Nicole Ann Crumling ’21,
the first recipient of the Rev. D.
Herbert Stevenson Memorial Scholarship.

Judith (Stevenson) Albornoz, Albright ’66, graduated with a degree in English. “Albright gave us an excellent education and the moral strength to launch us into our lives,” says Albornoz. “Successful graduates, I believe, can help lighten the road for new generations of students so that their arcs eventually may soar as well.”

Judith’s achievements include an M.A. from New Jersey City University and an Ed.D. from Columbia University in urban education. Before her retirement, Judith served as the director of student support services at Paterson Public Schools in New Jersey and as an urban needs specialist for the New Jersey Department of Education. Her belief in urban education has inspired her philanthropy for years.

“Giving to support the less affluent has been our practice for many years. Enrolling at Albright meant a financial struggle for my family. The scholarship that we established honors my father, a Methodist minister, who struggled year after year to help me complete my education.”

Judith and her husband Juan contribute to the Reverend D. Herbert Stevenson Memorial Scholarship Fund, which is awarded each year to a student in good academic standing who demonstrates financial need. The scholarship is endowed in perpetuity through a charitable remainder unitrust.

“Without grants, scholarships, and the kindness of strangers, I would not have been able to complete my education. Today it is my turn to help alleviate the struggle of at least one Albright College student each year so that she or he will be able to graduate without the crippling burden of educational debt.”
